Every building and program on campus was built or is now sustained through the gifts of our alumni. Alumni volunteers are also directly responsible for the success of Ohio Wesleyan’s Annual Fund. As a privately funded university, loyal volunteers make sure there is always support for the next generation of students. Since 1927, the volunteers we internally refer to as “Herman’s Heroes” (The late Herman Shipps ‘13 started our Class Giving Program), have made highly personal the program which seeks support throughout the class ranks.
Class Chairs are both recruited and appointed and are asked to lend vibrant leadership in these ways:
- foster greater class unity and involvement;
- encourage classmates to make their first gift;
- encourage classmates who give to increase their support;
- be a source of information about current OWU strengths and needs;
- personally contact as many members of the class as possible.
The Class Giving program is volunteer driven and at its most basic involves annual contact via a Class Letter. Some Class Chairs recruit large committees, others small, but all are involved with efforts to boost both the total dollar contributions and alumni participation.
The Annual Giving staff supports and applauds their efforts; coordinating mailings, updates and other information throughout the year.
